Gastro Pubs near Grasmere

My partner has a number of food intolerances and we find gastro style pubs have the best selection of things she can eat (Vintage Inns are a good example) as opposed to restaurants. Just wondered if there are any suitable places near to Grasmere?

Gastro pub refers to a bar/pub that serves high end food, usually the food is the greater attraction than the drink. Your suggestions look to fit the need, Tweedies Bar looks quite decent, she usually ends up having steak and chips! Main intolerances are to wheat and dairy. Any more suggestions welcome. Willing to go for a nice drive to get there so Ambleside or Bowness/Windermere also possibilities.

The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank. About 15 minutes by car from Windermere. :)

If you don't mind venturing a bit further afield there's L'Enclume in Cartmel, it's a bit pricey though.

I've had a very bad meal and terrible customer service at the Travellers Rest, so I would avoid there. I ate in the Water Edge in last week and found it only average, the menu read a lot better than it tasted! If you were willing to go as far as Keswick, we always enjoy The George and The Pheasant. I think they would fit your criteria of food being more important than drink. The George in particular gets very busy at weekends. I would think booking is essential.

It's not often I disagree with Leuca but I think the Water Edge Inn is a fantastic location but very mediocre in terms of food.

I've had good meals at the Hare and Hounds too. Personally I'd rank that a notch lower than the Masons.

No problem pepperwhitemini.

It is a while since I ate there , but two recent reports suggest on this thread that it is not up to the mark, so fair comment.

Besides , I used to stop mainly because of the view and that they sold small bottles of Veuve Clicquot,

Mrs. L's partial

So perhaps we got it the wrong way round as our OP suggests, the food wasn't that important!

but I don't recall it being poor though.

Cheers!
