Parking

Arrive to Hawkshead Car Park on 12/11/2012 at 16.44 to have meal at Queens Pub. Car park empty and completely dark. I put a valid ticket which was for the car park at Ambleside on the dash of my car. We went to the Queens and as they did not serve any meals until 18.00 hrs, we had a few drinks (My wife does not drink alcohol) and returned to the car at 17.57 hours. Just received Parking Fee today for £100.00. What a joke. Will never set in Hawkshead again. Over the years we have spent a lot of money in Gawkshead. My wife has spent a fortune in Poppi's.

Welcome to the forum, but what are you complaining about Rory? Play by the rules and you will be fine. You wouldn't expect a parking ticket you purchased in Manchester to be valid in Preston would you? Different Town, different parking arrangements.

Car parks are becoming hi tec in the Lakes these days, there is a ANPR system in place in the main car park in Ambleside.

Don't let this put you off Hawkshead, it's a lovely little place.

Manchester car parks are controlled by Manchester City Council.

Preston car parks are controlled by Preston City Council.

Both Ambleside and Hawkshead car parks are controlled by South Lakeland District Council.

I paid £7.00 for an all day parking ticket.

How much more do you want me to pay?

Hello

Not sure which car park you used, if its the main one controlled by Parking eye Chorley it's simple dont pay.

They will send lots of threatening letters but unlike a local council or police fine this is a civil matter.

They have to take you to court and prove who was the driver at the time of parking all they have is the registration number.

They can't do this and never take court action just throw the letters in the bin, never reply or enter into dialogue.

My son parks every week without paying and decorates his wall with the letters

Surely we all check to see what the terms and conditions are when we park ?

Quite often the charging times vary, sometimes certain days are even free.

This car park has a large sign at the entrance stating that its operated by the LDNP.

There's at least four different major operators in the Lakes, the National Trust, the LDNP, South Lakes and Allerdale. Additionally theres a number of small privately operated car parks.

As to London prices, they don't even come close to Cambridge charges, let alone London !!

Least the parking prices match their public transport costs.

£10 day ticket each, that said some taxi driver wanted £14 from Windermere station to Ambleside, told him where to get off for 5 miles and got ripped off for £3.75 on the bus instead.

The Lakes is expensive but not sure why Rory would think parking in one place and paying would be transferable
