You can only get married at a licensed venue and these will charge a lot of money, even for a small group. I would suggest you have a small register office ceremony, you can get away with just two witnesses, and then celebrate your wedding at any venue of your choice.

The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere used to do weddings and they only charged about £100 for the hire of the room for the ceremony. It was lovely looking out at the mountains from the room. This was 1997 so you'll need to check if they still do it. Our guests stayed at the hotel and we all went for a walk around Grasmere lake the day before which was fab. They also have a swimming pool there. The food was fabulous for the reception and they looked after us very well.

The Beech Hill Hotel on the Newby Bridge Road does Wedding Venues, also for a smaller Hotel try The Fayrer Garden they do smaller weddings for up to 50 Guests.

But the Wordsworth at Grasmere have ideal facilities using either the Conservatory or the Conference suite.
