Castle wanted near Lancashire for 4 year old Disney fan!

Hello everyone, can you help me please?

My wee 4 year old grandson is OBSESSED with Castles, Rapunzel and Shrek are mostly to blame. Where can I take him to a REAL castle without travelling too far? I'd love some info please. Sorry if this is a "dumb" question but it has me beaten! Maybe you can help, thank you in advance and have a good week,

Hello,

You don't state where you are in Lancashire, but one idea is

Not far from Preston and on the 280/X80 bus route too.

Hi,

Two suggestions for North and Central Lancashire are Lancaster Castle and Clitheroe Castle.

Beeston Castle in Cheshire isn't too far, if you live in South Lancashire.

Good luck!

As the replies above say, it would help to know where you are travelling from if you dont want to go too far but two to consider;

Muncaster Castle, in the lakes about an hour from the M6/J36 (fun for children including an Owl centre and the grounds from late Oct-Dec when they are illuminated) www.muncaster.co.uk

Hoghton Tower, near to Preston and often something going on for children: www.hoghtontower.co.uk/index.html

somewhere else has just occurred to me but I've checked online and its now closed for winter is Camelot, near Chorley. Its a theme park rather than actual castle but definitely one for childern (even the 'big' rides are fairly tame so it doesnt attract the thrill seekers and of say, the pleasure beach.) It has its own hotel if you wanted to make a break of it (although we haven't stayed so can't comment on that).

One to think about for next year?

It's expensive and nearly two hours from Lancashire but you can actually stay in gorgeous rooms at Langley Castle which has loads of old tapestries, massive fireplaces, nooks next to slits for firing arrows out of, and a suit of armour in the entrance
