Albert Dock Parking / Must do's

Hi all, we have just booked Holiday Inn Express at Albert Dock for 1 night bank holiday weekend. I am aware the hotel has no parking, can anyone offer advice on where to park (we dont want to end up paying a fortune, anything up to £15 for 24 hours would be ok)

We will be heading over to arrive early afternoon on the Sunday and plan to head home mid afternoon on the Monda. We enjoy cultural / sightseeing stuff (that wont cost too much), we will want a nice meal (Bar & Grill style is always a fave) & a few drinks on the Sunday evening, we dont like anywhere too posy or expensive though just somewhere nice & reasonably priced with a good mixed crowd. Any suggestions of must go to's on both the days & the Sunday night ?

Cheers in advance for any help.

Ahhhhhh, I wondered why finding a hotel was so difficult, we looked at Manchester & London & there were loads of hotels available, we fancied Liverpool though for a change but there wearnt many hotels with rooms.

Thanks for the info, we have never been to Liverpool before so it will be good to get the experience of that weekend. My husband will be really happy about it :o)

I guess we will just go with the flow & see where we end up on the evening food & drink wise.

Thanks for the info about the parking.

There are pay and display bays outside the hotel at £15 for 24 hours/ £8 for 6 hours and £3.50 overnight (7pm-8am) (other times also available - this is just for a guide). But will be busy during the day being a Bank Holiday. Otherwise as Gaz says there is a multi storey about 400m away on the other side of the big wheel from the hotel at £10 for 24 hours.

There is a Bar & Grill in Brunswick Street about 15 min walk from the hotel, but on the way you will go past all the Bars /Restaurants in Albert Dock and via a slight detour the eateries and bars at Liverpool1. The city centre will be v busy!

I went on the big wheel near your hotel recently and it was great - fab views of the city and waterfront.

Yes, you'll be arriving in the middle of the Mathew St Festival - there will be about 5 stages set up around the city centre, each with non stop music between about 11 am and 7pm. Most of these are tribute bands - there are some amazingly good ones who perform around the world all year. There is a loose theme for each stage, but bands to look out for include any Abba tribute, the Queen one goes down well too and I love the motown stage. There is one stage which has Beatles tribute bands all day, and another which has local unsigned bands.

Get hold of a programme from the festival website and work out which you want to see and take it from there. Most local people walk around the festival with bags full of beers and butties, but there are food stalls around and places to get a beer if you don't want to carry it around with you. It's a great day out and it's always a brilliant atmosphere.

We live in Wirral and last Monday we had a day off.

We went for a Champagne Breakfast at the Panoramic Restaurant to watch the Cunard Queen Victoria land in Liverpool. The restaurant is just past the Mersey Tunnel Dock exit on the right.

They do a set lunchtime meal for about £19.50 and the views from the 34th floor are exceptional - I think it would be a good idea to book as early as possible.

We also had a go on the Yellow Dukw tour - these are ex WW2 landing craft (used in the D Day Landings acoording to the guide) which give you a 40 minute tour of the city centre and then drive into the docks for a sail for another 20 minutes - the best part is the commentary which is hilarious - its a trip well worth doing (just a tip sit on the left as most things he describes to you are on the left)

We then went into the Top Seceret Underground WW2 Battle of the Atlantic Headquarters under Derby Square. This is where the allied convoys were guided in and protection dispatched to defend them from the German U Boat Packs .

Its exactly the same as it was during the war and is also worth a look.

These are all things on our doorstep which we've never done before and enjoyed every one - just some suggestions, hope you enjoy them .

Thanks to everyone for all your help. We have some good ideas now on how to spend our day / night in Liverpool. We will definetely be checking out the street festival and some of the other suggestions.

We are only about 1½ hour drive away so may plan to leave Doncaster a bit earlier on the Sunday & try and get there for mid to late morning so we can get nearly 2 full days.
