I would suggest Weatherspoons, Debenhams or Rapid Hardware (the restaurant)

There are weatherspoons on Whitechapel , and Charlotte Street...as well as Lloyds Bar nr Williamson Square

Hotels, department stores and Weatherspoons are the last places I'd go for a decent breakfast. If you really want a hotel brekky, then fair enough, check the websites of all the main chains - they are dotted around the city centre.

If you fancy a cafe, then Bold St is probably your best bet, as there are lots of cafes there - Cafe Tabac (right at the top by the junction with Berry St) is great, and the Soul Cafe gets good reports. Further down there is Maggie Mays and other coffee houses and tea shops.

The Egg cafe is veggie, but does good breakfasts and just next to it is Di Scala, which also gets good reviews. These are both on Newington between Bold St and Renshaw St.

Kimos on Mount Pleasant gets good reports for its breakfasts - all halal fry ups and also veggie and Egyptian breakfasts are available.
