Liverpool with kids

Hi

I will be visiting Liverpool with my 5 year old son. Any suggestions of where to visit. Is there any amusement park near liverpool?

You could catch the 45 minute train from Liverpool to Southport on a Day Return ticket. There's a decent sized fair ground there on the front. Other attractions in Southport would include the swimming complex which is nearby and the beach which is just across the road. A walk or ride along the pier is also enjoyable.

If you have time you could stop off at Freshfield station and walk to the pinewoods to see the red squirrels. The beach and sand dunes are also worth visiting.

You could go on the Mersey Ferry to Seacombe and visit Spaceport: http://www.spaceport.org.uk/

And a ride on the Yellow Duckmarine is a must: http://www.theyellowduckmarine.co.uk/

There's plenty to keep kids occupied at the World Museum including the aquarium, planetarium, Egyptian mummies and the bug house! liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/wml/things-to-see/

Underwater Street at the Pier Head is specifically designed for children: http://www.underwaterstreet.com/

If the weather is nice then go to New Brighton over on the Wirral which is a short train ride away from Liverpool. At New Brighton there is a beach and a fun fair and indoor play centre: http://www.wlgltd.co.uk/web/index.php

Will you have a car or will you be using public transport?

Alton Towers is a 1hour 45 mins drive away and Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Liverpool city centre.

Not sure how you would get to Alton Towers on train or bus - unless you went on a organised coach excursion. Train to Blackpool from Liverpool takes 1 hour 25 minutes.

And I'm not sure how suitable Blackpool PB and Alton Towers are for a 5 year old.

Camelot Theme Park is closer to Liverpool, but would be easier to get to if you had a car as you would need to get a train AND bus is using public transport. http://www.camelotthemepark.co.uk/

Blackpool pleasure Beach has a one admission price, similarto Alton Towers...Look at the websites and judge..

Blackpool far easier to get to on public transport

The advantage with Southport over the others is you can pay as you go on individual rides. There will be height restrictions on many rides at Blackpool, Camelot and Alton Towers and you will both have to pay for entry regardless of which rides are suitable. I don't think you would get value for money with a 5 year old unfortunately.

...and the trains to and from Southport are every 15 minutes and the journey only takes 45 minutes, which is rather useful if the 5 year old gets bored and fed up - you can make a quick dash back to Liverpool and won't have wasted lots of money!

Not sure when you are visiting, but during the school holidays there are usually fairground rides dotted about the city centre, there is also usually a beach !!! Hopefully the weather will improve sometime.....
