Staying at Heathrow, going to HP Studio Tour and Legoland

Hello, we are traveling to London in December and staying for three days, me and two children (9, 11) We are arriving Thursday afternoon and have Harry Potter Studio Tour booked for Friday and Legoland Windsor on Saturday, flying out on Sunday morning. We are staying at the Premier Inn Heathrow. I am considering renting a car for 4 days unless there is a more convenient option to get around. From my understanding public transport is not easy to these two venues and cab is quite pricey, but I can be mistaken. I am reading reviews about car rental at Heathrow and I am a little taken aback by the number of complaints. Do you have any advice what mode of transport to use, that is not too time consuming and expensive? Or is car rental my best option? Thank you!

First comment is, don’t stay at Heathrow.......HP and Windsor are easy from the centre, HP is no more than 20 minutes (plus the studio shuttle) on fast trains from London Euston. Legoland by train to Windsor and again a shuttle. Being in a Heathrow hotel will use up to 2 hours a day just getting into and out of the city. Look at Premier Inn in the centre such as St Pancras - there are plenty, get inside the Circle tube line.

2nd comment, forget the car, nightmare in London, use public transport

PMQuestions points might have some validity, but I can't see any sign that OP is actually going to be going to London at all. Appears to have two days, one of which is in Watford and one is in Windsor.

Which Premier Inn have you actually booked? There are five that have Heathrow in the name.

+1 to everything PMQ. Why are you staying out at the airport please? it's not especially pleasant and it's very inconvenient for seeing the sights.

C0rnc0b, what prompted my comments was that I read “we are traveling to London in December and staying for three days”,?

I hate to break it to you, but Windsor Legoland is closed in December. (To be honest I think your kids are a bit old for Legoland. It is really geared for much younger children.)

You could still stay in Windsor, and visit the Castle. It's 20 minutes from Heathrow, and very compact and walkable, with lots of restaurants, shopping, decorations, and the river Thames.

You can pre-book a car to bring you to Windsor. 5Star and Windsor Cars are both good companies. A black cab from the rank will cost more.

The MacDonald Hotel is right across from the Castle and has adjoining rooms. If you are on a budget, look at the Travelodge in Central Windsor. Please bear in mind that not all hotels with Windsor in the name are actually in Windsor.

Tbh, there's fairly scant details of what it actually is, but that seems even less suited to children of the age stated than the regular park.

Indeed. Either it's a very broad definition of 'London' or OP thinks she has time that she doesn't have.

Travelling from Heathrow to the Harry Potter Studios is fairly straight forward - Greenline bus 724 runs approximately every hour from Heathrow's Central Bus Station to Watford Junction Station, which is where the studio's shuttle bus leaves from. The journey time on the 724 bus is approx. 1 hour - see arrivabus.co.uk/herts-and-essex/… for the 724 timetable.

C0rncob, you are right, although it is odd that on the Windsor Legoland website, their calendar shows the park as closed for December.

In any case, I think the OP's kids are probably a bit too old for Legoland.
