Visiting London for the first time, advice on area?

Hello everyone,

I Will be staying in London for 6 days and it will be 6 of us. Found a flat in Kennington near kennington park and the Oval Tube station, I was wondering if this was a good area to stay as far as safety and overall location and if transport to central London would be easily accessible and time efficient?

Thank you

South London is always a little tricky to make completely accurate statements about whether an area is safe since even individual neighbourhoods can vary a lot since good and bad housing is often in very close proximity. With that said I'm not aware of any particular issues around Kennington.

Oval is served by both branches of the Northern Line so you'll find it quick and easy to get into Central London, its unlikely you'll need more than one change to get almost anywhere in the central area.

There is also a good selection of bus routes passing the station.

The only downside is that its not an especially convenient location for travel to and from either Heathrow or Gatwick.

Please post a link to the property you’re considering, as many owners can be a bit generous with descriptions of both location and accommodation.

Very likely both safe and convenient, but there may be other drawbacks you haven't thought of.

It's a great area and the pubs have actual locals rather than tourists in them

Oval is a good area....you have buses and a underground station.

Lots of bars and Clapham is close, so is Vauxhall.

Central London is 5 mins on tube.

As to safety, it's not more or less then most London areas.

There are some very nice Victorian terraces around there, but there are equally some grittier large areas of social housing. Not necessarily unsafe, though there are bits I would walk through to get to a pub during the lunch break at the cricket ground that I would want some reassurance from a local about before I did it late at night on my own.

Do post a link, because the other big danger is that it is an illegally let social housing flat, and you risk a short-notice cancellation if the landlord finds out.

Maestro, it's the same post, all these in TALF show on the UK forum, and the England one.
