If you are sure of your travel plan, then book now. The "advance" fares are quota controlled. If you hold off, those fares may sell out and you will be offered higher fares. Remember that the advance fares are not flexible - you can only travel on the train you book.
The luggage won't be a problem.
Luggage isn't a problem, except remember you have to handle it yourself, lift onto the train etc
It doesn't matter whether they're "decent" - they are what they are, and you won't find them cheaper by shopping around or waiting. If your travel dates are flexible, you may find cheaper fares by changing your dates by a day or two.
If you want to keep your luggage near you, get to the station at least 20 minutes early and try to be one of the first to board. Otherwise you may have to leave your bags some distance away from your seat.
If you book all 6 tickets at the same time you'll get a group discount.
Just make sure you book them here: http://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com
When you book all 6 tickets together on the same booking the total price you see will be for all of you not per person.
You can pick up the tickets from the ticket machines at the railway stations in London when you arrive. You will need the bank card used for payment and the booking reference number to get the tickets printed. When you do this make sure you have all of the tickets, there could be two or four tickets per person plus a receipt.
