Hope to visit Kew in early June. We'll be on a VERY tight budget so would appreciate any advice on how to keep costs down.
Is it possible/ realistic to walk there from central Twickenham or should we keep our feet for walking many hours in the gardens? We'd probably get a bus/train back as we'll be tired by the end of the day. If walking is possible, how long would it take, and are there any worthwhile stops en route (interesting places, good shops, nice cafe's etc)?
Where are the cheapest places to find food & drink in the gardens themselves, and outside near any of the gates? I presume once you've bought your ticket you can leave the gardens & return an hour or so later, if you want? So often, the cafes & restaurants in these places have high prices because they have a captive clientele. Would it be worthwhile to bring a packed lunch & are there places where you're allowed to eat one?
Are there any other particular money-saving tips for Twickenham/Richmond/Kew area you could share?
We'd be very grateful for any advice. Thank you.
