Future Rock & Roll Bands

We'll be visiting London for the first time and we'd like to see the next big Rock & Roll band while they are still playing in a local bar.

Can anyone help with suggestions on where we might go. We're just looking for a popular hangout with great live great rock and roll.

If you find the next big Rock and Roll band still playing in a pub please let me know and I will sign them up.

Otherwise , you will have to put up will a lot of rubbish before you find something worth listening to.

Get a copy of Time Out when you get to London for details of music venues.

Some bands I'm listening to at the moment that aren't huge, but are quite good:

Bromhead's Jacket - www.bromheadsjacket.com

Reverend & The Makers - www.iamreverend.com

the:hair - www.hairmusic.co.uk

The Sunshine Underground - www.tsuarmy.co.uk

Art Brut - www.artbrut.org.uk

The Long Blondes - www.thelongblondes.co.uk

The Young Knives - www.theyoungknives.com

Duels - www.duelsmusic.com

Cardboard Radio - www.cardboardradio.co.uk

The Pigeon Detectives - www.thepigeondetectives.com

Tiny Dancers - www.thetinydancers.com

You might not be able to catch all of them at a pub, some are playing bigger venues, some have albums out but still play smaller places.

Also, they might not meet your definition of 'rock and roll', but I'd put them all in the 'British Indie' bracket, which is all largely guitar based. The Sunshine Underground and the:hair have a bit more of a dance-y vibe about them, and have both been pigeon-holed by the NME as 'new rave' bands...whatever the bleedin' hell that means...

One last thing, a lot of them are northern England bands, largely because thats where I'm from so I know whats going off. All of them do play in London quite regularly though.

Thanks Harry for the great list.

Can you suggest any pubs where you might look for these groups?

Thanks

Not in London, I'm not too au fait with gigs down that way. But should you somehow bizarrely find yoiurself in Leeds I will gladly reel off a list of venues and maybe take you to a few too.

Have a cracking time, hope you find somewhere!

Here's a few places you should definately try:

http://www.themonto.com/

http://www.bugbearbookings.com/pages/dc.htm

loads of famous (now) bands started their careers at these places.

You could also try the Water Rats in Kings Cross, they regularly have live rock bands

I could use a little clarification. It seems when you go to any listing for live rock and roll, it directs to an establishment that does not serve alcohol. The gigs all seem to start at 8PM too. I've checked out Time Out and these clubs with live music all seem to be dry.

I'm staying near Holborn Station. I'm looking for live rock and roll on this Saturday night (late) with a drink in my hand. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I've never heard anyone under the age of 40 use the term ''rock and roll''. Didn't it go out in the 60s?

Definately get a copy of Timeout - will list all venues and gigs. You probably find alot around the Camden area, such as the Barfly.

Actually I am over 40 which explains why I call it Rock and Roll. Whatever you call it I'd like to hear loud music on a Saturday night with a cocktail in my hand.

Do clubs like Barfly serve alcohol? How late does the live music go to?

Thanks!
