really cheap accommodation central london

can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in central london for 2 adults and one teenager on a tight budget. Booking 2 rooms seems very expensive. Please help if you know of any good apartments or cheap hotels.

Don't know if this is your thing, but the German YMCA/Lancaster Hall Hotel offers inexpensive rooms. Located about 4 blocks from Paddington Station and close to Hyde Park.

Others on this forum have recommended Howdah, across the street from the park.

It wouldn't hurt to post your maximum budget as people can then more easily make specific suggestions. I'd give Travelodge a try. Their 'saver' rates are only 26 GBP per night. You have to check through their website (travelodge.co.uk) and you have to click on the 'saver' button to find the deals. Sometimes it takes a bit of tenacity to get a great rate. I would never pay the full rate for the TL's in London, but the cheap rooms are a good deal.

Only the Covent Garden location is truly 'central', but the Kings Cross, Kings Cross Royal Scot, Farringdon (all three are within a five minute walk of each other), and Marylebone locations are well situated for accessing central London by bus or tube or even on foot.

If you're looking for 2 rooms in that price range try The Wardonia, it's near St Pancras Station so good transport links allover the capital and walking distance of British Library, British Museum, Oxford St, etc.

It's very much a no frills, budget hotel but spotlessly clean, comfortable an well maintained. Doubles are £55 a night, single £40. All rooms are en-suite but don't include any extra such as breakfast, tea/coffee. TV in the room has freeview so the teenager might be happy to have music channels.

I stayed last month at St Pancras Hostel near King´s Cross Station with my teen daughter. I think it is a good choice. There were mostly families with young children and teens. They have private rooms for families, but you have to book in advance. Breakfast was included in the price, and it was really good.

You can check at: yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/…index.aspx

Good luck

How long are you staying? If it's a 2-3 night weekend break the Travelodge might suit.

The 'family rooms' will have a double bed and a sofa/pullout.

There will be an ensuite aswell. Some are OK space wise but others can be quite tight. But if you get the big discounts can be OK to slum it for a couple of nights.

A site I sometimes use is www.smoothhound.co.uk or www.laterooms.co.uk.

They usually display the diff configurations available at hotels (Triples/Family rooms etc)

Good Luck

PS When are you coming?

Last autumn I stayed in one of the basic - or modest, if you will - hotels near King's Cross, and had a decent enough room with breakkie for about forty quid a night. Have a look at the Hotel Meridiana on Argyle Square - it was clean and comfortable and did the job for a couple of nights.

With that budget and if you are coming at a weekend you could even consider going up a notch by looking at The Holiday Inn Kensington which has a decent number of family sized rooms at not much more than your top rate. Nice location especially if you are flying into Heathrow.

With that budget, if you bid on Priceline "Name Your Own Price" in the Regent's Park/Baker St. zone, you can often get the Hilton Metropole for a bid of around US$82 per night per double room. After taxes and fees, this comes to about £50 per night per double room, so booking two rooms should still be within your budget.
