Luton at night time

I have booked at the Thistle Hotel in the Arndale Centre in Luton. I will be arriving at the airport at about 9.30 in the evening (late August). I have to travel to the hotel alone (single female). I will not be carrying heavy suitcases.

I see from the map that the hotel is in walking distance from the train station and it does not cost much to travel by train. My question to anyone who knows Luton is therefore ... is it safe for me to be walking in this area at night time or should I get a taxi from the airport?

Definitely a taxi. To get to the main town train station from the airport (Parkway) station (reached by free shuttle bus) is time consuming and to be honest I would not like to be wandering around that area late at night especially at weekends.

What are your plans? If you are headed out again the next morning then I would look at the Ibis or The Holiday Inn Express which are both located a short walk from the terminal.

You will see from other postings that Luton is not a nice place at the best of times. Take a taxi from the airport........

Thanks for both replies.

I am headed off on the train to Birmingham very early in the morning. Taxi fares are worth it if personal safety is an issue.

Well, as it is late at night I will let you into an old Bedfordshire saying: 'If God wanted to give England an enema he would stick the tube in Luton'

Shhhh! Don't tell anyone.........

Goodoldboy,

I'm from Luton originally. Going back for another visit next month.

Everyone says, "oooh, how nice for you!"

Obviously never been to Luton!

Your comments are entirely appropriate! LOL
