Terminal 2 Heathrow, Passport control - I'm shocked.

Hi everyone

I don't often post about airports but was really peeved by the set up at Terminal 2 passport control at arrivals this weekend.

There were around a dozen desks for non-EU citizens and just 2 for EU citizens. Non- EU citizens had little or no queue but people who live here had to wait and queue 'Disney style' like a snake and it took 30 mins. The vast majority of people arriving at my time where EU citizens, it was a joke.

What sort of policy is that!!!!

A rubbish one. Best solution is to register for IRIS recognition (which is still on trial I believe) and 'fasttrack' Immigration.

That's interesting, Parklandwalk, thanks.

I'll look into it (excuse the pun) but it still smacks of madness, or perhaps P.C. gone mad, to have faster immigration through passport control for visitors than for residents.

Stooferuk, why not let your local MEP know about this. If anything, it should be the other way around.

we returned from Margarita last week and after a 10 hour flight had to endure the same process......absolutely ridiculous!

I think it is a tacticle ploy by the airport to make people think they haven't waited long for their luggage because by the time we got through our bags were merrily going round on the carousel.

As a non EU citizen, I have experienced the opposite, where I have had to queue for ages, while for EU citizens there have many desks open and they get through in no time at all.

Part of the problem are the new procedures for handling EU passports by UK immigration. It used to be that you just showed them and that was it, now they swipe every passport to ensure it is legitimate so it takes slightly longer.

Besides it's not that unusual for citizen lines to take longer than non-citizen, I've gone through US immigration with American friends where it's taken longer for them than me.

It's the luck of the draw -- I've flown into both Heathrow and Gatwick and breezed through control as a non-EU citizen, and stood in queues for hours at both.

The best was when I flew into Heathrow trying to get to an appointment in the Midlands -- and had the incredible luck of arriving 10 minutes after a flight from Kenya carrying hundreds of non-EU citizens...most of which had no documentation -- 2-1/2 hours for that little exercise!

The next time you might well see the situation reversed, and be through customs in minutes.

I have had similar experiences. When you enter the US , US citizens seem to get preference but here UK nationals come last.

The lines at Heathrow were loooooong ! The line began in the corridor. I was amazed at how long the lines were. Even though I was sick and they were trying to help us get out as quickly as possible we were there for at least 25- 30 minutes.
