Would suggest choosing a hotel based on it's convenience to transportation - at which train station will you be arriving? Unless, of course you'll be driving in.

Those three locations are furthest points across 'tourist' London, with The Palace in the middle. Therefore, go for somewhere near the West end, walking distance to Buck Pal.

What budget?

Personally, I'd sat The Tower is to visit, also see the bridge and St. Pauls and then head back to West End. It's not the best area to stay, a bit out from the action.

Premier Inn Kings Cross located almost next door to the station in York Way sounds as if it might suit. If they won't look after your bags then there is a left luggage place run by a company caled Excess Baggage in the station.

Oh and your son travels free on tubes and buses. You should buy a one day travelcard which, assuming you are here on a weekend, costs £5.30 and gives you unlimited travel in the central zones 1&2 on tubes and buses. From Kings Cross take the Circle Line to Tower Hill or the Northern Line to Bank from where the Tower is a ten minute walk.

Hi, a 10 minute walk from Kings Cross brings you to russel square, we actually used to get a taxi costing anything from £4 to £8 then one day looked at the map and realised the Imperial Hotel where we stay was walkable. embarassing eh

So the Imperial is a budget hotel costs £118 for a triple room, 3 beds not a roll out as some hotels have. This includes full english breakfast, its clean and great for all the transport links.

Walk to the British Museum in 5 minutes then another 10 and your at oxford street. You could do a lot worse, let us know what you decide.

Baden Powell House might be too basic but I have heard good reports and it is in a great position.
