4 ladies looking for a SAFE & comfy hotel in London or Kew

This is our first trip to London so all help appreciated. We are doing genealogy research and plan to spend most of our time at the National Archives which is being moved to Kew. We seek a SAFE and comfy hotel either with a restaurant or near restaurants/shopping and public transportation.

Thank you!!!

Can you give me information about apartments near Kew and the National Archives?

Everywhere in Kew is safe. It's a leafy professional class suburb. There are hotels not far away in Brentford and Richmond, not sure how many in Kew itself as it's very residential. The Coach and Horses pub on Kew Green might be worth a try though it's on a main road. My sister says the Kew Gardens Hotel is a dreadful pub with terrible food. There's a B&B on this website whose review says it is ideal for the archives.

Kew is on the District Line of the Underground. There are numerous buses. There are quite a few restos outside Kew station, a few minutes walk from the archives (Ma Cuisine is good value and the Glasshouse has a Michelin star) and more around Kew Green. There are smallish shops in Kew and a lively shopping centre in Richmond.

I live in Richmond and my mother is in Kew, so ask me more by private message if you like.

I'd say stay in Richmond.

That way you are close to the archives - a very short tube journey to Kew.

Also you can get the overland train into town in 15 minutes [if it's your first trip you'll probably want to go into the centre].

Finally Richmond has lots of shops, restaurants and the like. Much more than Kew.

If money isn't a problem I'd stay at the Petersham, but there are many others.

Paul.

Look on VRBO.com for apartment rentals. With needing meals for 4 people daily, you will save time and money by preparing your own meals, plus be able to get away from eachother at the end of the day...the apartment will also allow those that wish to stay up, to do so...and those that want to go to bed to do so.

You can search for specific neighborhoods on VRBO, then google earth it to see for grocery and pubs/restaurants near by.

If you really want to stay in Kew, the Coach and Horses is right on Kew Green and is a very pleasant, old fashioned pub.

Anthony Worral Thompson's Kew Grill is just across the road (don't know if you will have heard of him, but he is a very famous chef over here).

There are a few other nice pubs in walking distance.
