confused about train to hampton court

we are off tomorrow! so im just double checking everything but im slightly confused on the train to hampton court.

Would we depart from Waterloo station and then switch at the Surbiton station? On the 27th we are planning on getting there right when it opens so I figured the best route was:

Waterloo Rail Station

Take South West Trains towards Basingstoke Rail Station

switch

Surbiton Rail Station

Take South West Trains towards Hampton Court Rail Station

sorry for the inconvenience, just a wee confused!

When we went last May, there was a direct train from Waterloo station. The line ended a five minute walk from Hampton Court, with no change of train.

There is a direct train from Waterloo to Hampton Court. It gors through Surbiton but you do not need to change and don't go anywhere near trains heading to Bastingstoke. The train leaves from one of the low numbered platforms at Waterloo (platforms 1 to 4) and runs every half hour I think - check times on tfl, national rail enquiries or south west trains websites. Hampton Court is the end of the line. When you come out of the station turn right across the bridge and you'll see the palace.

There are direct trains every 30 mins from Waterloo to Hampton Court - they leave at 12 and 42 minutes past the hour.

I think that you have got the resultss you did because you used today's date when you searched the timetable....there are major engineering works over the bank holiday weekend so the trains to Hampton Court aren't running and therefore aren't on the timetable if you use today's date.

As the Hampton Court trains stop at all stations from Waterloo, you may be better catching one a bit further down the line - it depends where your hotel is. i.e. if you are near Victoria start on a stopping train from there and change at Clapham Junction.

From most of the west end take the Victoria line to Vauxhall and change there. There is a map here that shows how the various services interconnect:

Don't forget to collect a "2 for 1" leaflet at Waterloo station, which will give you 2 tickets for the price of 1 into Hampton Court with that day's train ticket.
