Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells

In June we are spending a few days in Tonbridge to view

Chartwell, Hever Castle, Sissinghurst and Great Dixter.

Please forward any special restaurants in Tonbridge

or Tunbridge Wells worthy of mentioning.

Thank you for all your help.

All in Tunbridge Wells:

Thackeray's, 85 London Road

Hotel du Vin & Bistro, Crescent Road

Not tried yet, but looks interesting:

There are loads of places to eat in TW, as they cater for the well-healed locals, as well as those passing through.

Assuming you have a car, there are also a number of good pubs to choose from in the surrounding villages.

Oh, and you may need to post in the Kent and East Sussex forums if you want more local knowledge - it gets lost under London. Unfortunately, there isn't a single forum that covers South-East England.

Here are a couple more suggestions, in or near Tunbridge Wells:

West of Tonbridge (especially if you were thinking of including Leeds Castle) there is:

Although you haven't asked, but others may be interested, I'd personally recommend this pub close to Sissinghurst:

I'd second Ightham Mote, also Penshurst, and a little diversion (3 miles) for you into the Kent countryside is:

We have planned a day trip to that area to visit Chartwell and Hever Castle. One of the reasons we rented a car out of Tonbridge was so that we could go to the Botley Hill Farmhouse for lunch. It was highly recommended in another post.

I've not tried Botley Farmhouse (makes a mental note to do so), but you've reminded me we sometimes go to The Hare at Langton Green (Tunbridge Wells) for lunch. It's popular with the locals and gets very busy at the weekend - booking advised.

Thank you for everything. Apparently the restaurants around Hildenborough and Tonbridge are not in demand compared to Tunbridge Wells. I will take maps listing all the pubs and restaurants you have recommended then I will always have a meal to look forward to.
