Hotel for Girl One

Hey all,

I'll have a couple of days alone in London...looking for a somewhat reasonable place(I realize reasonable is relative-no more than say 180 USD/360 pounds per night)in a fun/hip hood(Notting Hill? Kensington? The City area?)...

Suggestions??

Many thanks!

Lula

No hoods in London Lula, just neighborhoods!

For funky (or fun) I would go with Notting Hill or maybe the north east edge (Clerkenwell, Hoxton) of The City but not Kensington.

Try these which may have deals depending on day of the week -

For clarification, do you mean US$180 (i.e. £90) or £360 (ie US$720)? I'm assuming the former, but just in case I'm wrong...

Hi, If you mean 180 USD, that's only about 92 GBP. If you book far enough in advance, you'll get a room at the Hoxton Hotel in fun/hip Hoxton Square area. Another possibility would be the London Bridge Hotel, next to trendy Borough Market, near Tate Modern, trendy SouthBank area. I wouldn't call Kensington or the City fun/hip areas - posh and staid perhaps!

Bear in mind 180 USD = 90 pounds, not 360 pounds!

So are we saying, then, that Kensington is not "fun and hip"? :-)

South Kensington, where you are, has never really been hip (although how you define hip could be a whole new thread!) but fun is very much subjective. I know friends who could have fun in the most horrible god forsaken areas of the world and I know others who wouldn't be happy in the most beautiful scenery. That was quite deep for me :-)

Speaking as one who worked in S Ken for 2 years it is not 'hip'. (Hoxtonites would be laughing into their absinthe). Upscale, even chic in parts but not hip.

My 2p's worth....
