Bentley Priory Heritage Open day this weekend

For those who fancy a day out in North West London this weekend!

As part of the national Heritage Open days this weekend, Grade II listed Bentley Priory in Stanmore is opening to the public for the first time in 80 years. Details below, as taken from the Heritage Open Days website.

Personally, I'm going to be there on one of the craft stalls (but this is not a plug, honest!), so am looking forward to an opportunity to visit this historic building on my doorstep.

Bentley Priory, a Grade II* listed Soane House - home to the Duke of Abercorn, Queen Adelaide and HQ Fighter Command at various times in its history’ The Battle of Britain was planned and commanded here’ It is also a Listed Garden and Registered Parkland which will be available to explore’ The film ‘The Battle of Britain’ was partly filmed here and you can visit rooms which appeared in the film’ The site is about to undergo some exciting changes with the development of a museum following the closure of the RAF base earlier this year’ This is a wonderful opportunity to visit a site which has been closed to the general public during its 70 years as a RAF base and learn about its future’ There will be lots to do and a lively market themed around ‘Dig for Victory’ and Make do and Mend’ will be selling for local products like honey and plants as well as homewares and jewelry from companies like Revampit’co’uk

Special Activities for Children/Families Details:

There will be children’s trails and events, plus the opportunity to meet a veteran, take part in Oral History recordings as well as buy local produce and art’

Directions:

Off the A4140 by ‘The Alpine’ traffic lights

Public Transport Details:

The nearest tube is Stanmore on the Jubilee Line’ Buses 142 run from the tube station to the common every 11/14minutes’ Use the underground to Stanmore and enjoy Serena Korda’s exhibition ‘The Answer Lies At The End Of The Line’ about code breaking which was designed with members of the local community as part of Art on the Underground on the way’ You can collect a booklet of crosswords to complete from Jubillee Line stations’ Bus 258 connects Bushey with Harrow and Wealdstone Underground’ A bicycle storage area will be provided’

Opening Times:

Thursday 11th September: Tours now fully booked

Friday 12th September: Tours now fully booked

Saturday 13th September: 1000-1700
