Best low-cost airline to use flying to Edinburgh?

Which budget airlines fly between Heathrow & Edinburgh, if there are any? And what would the luggage allowance be on such an airline? Thx!

Easyjet from Stansted, BUT don't expect their prices to be much lower than flying with a normal airline from Gatwick / Heathrow ESPECIALLY once you add on the cost & time of changing airports

As for Easyjet - no limit on hand luggage weight but it must be one item (NO PERSONAL ITEM) you must be able to lift it yourself and be no bigger than 55x40x20cm with a 20kg free checked luggage allowance - but you pay for bags and the excess baggage costs above 20kg will bankrupt a small nation.

In short - don't even think about doing it on your arrival day - have a day or so in London then take the train (either day or sleeper) to Edinburgh

If you are in London, then train is by far the better option. If you are at Heathrow - why didnt you fly direct to Edinburgh to start with?

Check fares with BA or BMI before booking with one of the LCCs, which do not fly from LHR. If you have a day or more between arrival in London and heading to Edinburgh and wish to fly (although the train is a v good option) then consider flying from London City Airport - LCY.

Getting to and from LCY on the Docklands Light Railway is v easy as the airport is in zone 3. It's an efficient little place, so you can get there about 50 minutes before scheduled flight departure and still have time for a cuppa before heading to the gate.

As TP says, London City is a nice airport to fly from although it is more of a business airport.

Stansted, Luton and Gatwick are the 'low-cost' carriers' airports for London. Easyjet from all these airports will be cheaper but full of hidden extras. British Airways do Gatwick to Edinburgh return from £94 including all taxes (I use this route often), Check BA's site as well as BMI as you may nick a bargain out of Heathrow.

We would be flying into LHR, and want to avoid London altogether on the front end of our trip. (We'll be back there for several days on the back end. Cannot change this as we'll be there for a particular event.) Thanks for the info., everyone!

The last time I used BMI baby. It wasn't very expensive, but I don't remember any allowances. We both checked one bag, but we use smaller bags, not the giant ones so no one said anything.
