Walk the Local Neighborhood

One of the first things I do in a new destination is take a walk in the neighborhood-it gives me a feel for the local area that I never seem to be able to get from reading travel guides and web forums (no offense to fellow TALFers!). Anyone else here have a similar MO (modus operandi)?

I do that too. I explore everyday a little bit more from the neighborhood of my accomodation. I love to see the habit of the people in their neighborhood.

Same here - I love getting into Central London quickly so I can start exploring the area around my hotel. It's fun to see what's changed and what's stayed the same since the last trip.

Webdweeb: If only hotel staff would take your advice! They never even seem to know what's right next door, do they?
