Early AM trnsport question

We are staying off Russell Sq tube stop and just realized our return trip from Heathrow is an 8am flight. I believe the tube doesn't start running until 6am which wouldn't give us enough time to get there and check in...what are some alternative economical options? Thanks.

The TFL site recommends taking bus N91 or 188 to Aldwych and then bus N9 to Heathrow, travel time about 1 hr 45 mins. That will be the cheapest option. Alterntaively you can get the bus to Paddington and take the Heathrow Express, which will be faster but more expensive.

For the price of a taxi plus HEX - possibly less - you could use a car service from Russell Square to Heathrow.

A saloon car big enough for two plus bags shouldn't cost much more than £30 (if that) and will take you door to door - no schlepping from the HEX to Departures.

Have a look at www.exclusiveairports.co.uk www.simplyairports.co.uk www.handicars.co.uk www.justairports.com to see what each have to offer.

The 1st Tube on a weekday is 5:41 arriving 6:36 which is a little bit too late for you, so instead of getting the HEX the easiest (and cheaper than the HEX) option would be a car service

Can you check in online? If so, arriving at 6:36 for an 8am flight sounds fine to me. Heathrow will insist that you reach / clear security at leat 45mins before your flight time.

It does depend on your airline though - if BA, then this will be easy, they've got millions of luggage desks in T5. If another airline, i'd be specific, as begins to get a bit tighter.

We had just the same situation two weeks ago. Stayed near Russell Square tube and had an early flight from Heathrow. After weighing all the options (bus, Heathrow Express, etc) we decided to use a car service and say ourslves the hassle of schlepping our bags and changing from bus to tube and booked a car service for 40 pounds. We had planned on using the Piccadilly line from Russell Square until we found out that the first tube didn't run until 5:41 am. After being on the run for 12 days, it was nice to just sit back and relax on the way to the airport.

What time did you leave the hotel? How long did it take that early in the morning? Which car service did you use?

Thank you.
