Tea at Ritz substitute?

Hi

I was to be taken for my tea at the Ritz this week as part of a birthday present, but am now laid low with lurgy and have had to cancel. Our trip is postponed to November but the Ritz has no vacancies until the new year.

Sad rural gal that I am I was looking forward to the ambience and formality of the Ritz. Any suggestions for a similar kind of venue, to eat mid afternoon/early evening, about £40 a head excl wine?

Have a look at the Lanesborough or the Connaught for something similar.

Personally, I liked Claridges more than the Ritz and I highly recommend it.

The Athenaeum does lovely afternoon teas - all very pretty, bordering on girly, but in a good way.

The Athenaeum does lovely afternoon teas, all very pretty, actually a little bit girly but in a good way and it's close to the Ritz. I've never been to the Ritz but I would imagine that this is slightly less formal. Still certainly a dressing up opportunity though. Have fun.

Claridges, the Lanesborough or I like Browns Hotel in Piccadiily as not so full of tourists. Enjoy!

Thank you everyone. Although I'm a great Trip Advisor user I hadn't thought to check for reviews of afternoon tea. Now I've checked out the Tea at the Ritz reviews I'm pleased we've had to cancel. Although the Athenueum looks lovely, I think we'll try Claridges. Thanks for your advice and reviews.
