Which is the nearest direct bus route (without changing) from russell square which stops somewhere near baker st/marylebone / madame tussauds area?

No bus routes do this journey but you can walk up Woburn Place (about a ten minute walk from Russell Square) turn left onto Euston Road and catch an 18, 30 or 205 which all pass Madame Tussauds and Baker Street tube.

There isn't a route I know of that doesn't involve a change of bus. You'll have to take a 59, 91, or 68 to Euston Station, walk to Euston Square, and then take an 18, 30, or 205 to Madame Tussauds.

You can either walk along Upper Woburn Place to the Euston Road to stop H for the 18, 30 or 205 (see the first link below) or walk to the Euston Road and turn right towards St Pancras, with the 30 and 205 calling at stop B.
