walking tour to see best Christmas lights

During my upcoming trip I'd love to spend one evening doing a leisurely walking tour to see the "best" of London's Christmas lights. We'd start about 6pm and could walk for a few hours. I'd like to know what a walking "expert" thinks of the following:

start at Trafalgar Sq to see the Norwegian tree and decorations

walk north up Haymarket street thru Piccadilly Circus

then north up Regent St

make a diversion east to see Carnaby Street

back to Regent Street

then east on Oxford Street.

Anything else close to this you'd recommend?

Covent Garden

St Christopher's Place

Sloane Square

Some of these could be best seen from the front seat at the top of a Double Decker bus.

Yes, going through Oxford Street and Regent street on the upper floor of a double decker is a must if you are in London during pre-Christmas season. I would sit on the front-left, so that I wouldn't miss Hamleys.

Another must-see is Harrods.

Sorry to jump in, but we will be arriving on Friday and was wondering the same thing! Which bus would be best for this tour?

Thanks, gmjj5

Buses 6, 23, 15 stop at Marble Arch, go down (or is it up?) Oxford Street and then turn left to Regent Street. With those buses you can do what I'm describing above. You can then get off the bus at Aldwych and go to Covent Garden.*

From Covent Garden, you can walk to Piccadilly Circus and take buses 14, 19, 22 to Knightsbridge for Harrods. From Harrods you can either walk to Sloane Square or take bus C1.

*If you also want to check out St Christopher's place, you can walk there and then take the bus from Bond Street instead of Marble Arch. Don't miss the part from Marble Arch to Bond Street because you will miss the amazing windows of Selfridges.

Try looking at this link to www.viewlondon.co.uk too - it lists all sorts of Christmassy events and the various lighting displays

PS: I usually like the lights at St Christophers Place

If you go west on Oxford Street, you can then see St Christopher's and Selfridges as already mentioned but you could also then head down Bond Street and see those lights. Then maybe cut through Burlington Arcade to Piccadilly where Fortnum and Mason usually has Christmas displays in their windows.

mick67 is absolutely right about the Burlington Arcade. I walked past them last night and it looks magical. And the Fortnum & Mason shop has window displays based on Swan Lake that are worth a peek.
