Kid frindly London in Feb?

We are thinking of visiting London with our 2 kids (7 and 3) from 19th to 22nd Feb (fri-Mon) and wondered what activities everyone thought would be suitable for these ages especially at this time of the year when the weather can be very unpredictable.

We have been a few times but never with the kids and wondered if anyone had any tips?

Well, coming from Lancashire your family should be used to harsh weather (worse than we are getting here by a long way!) and so Feb in London should not be too daunting as the CITY generates it's own heat to some extent and is normally a degree or 2 warmer than the outlying areas.

There's lots of museums that are FREE and good for kids, often with free trails, backpacks, suggestions, activities and the like to keep them happy and occupied.

Ones that spring to mind include Natural History, Science, British Museum, National Gallery, Imperial War Museum, Wallace Collection.

Pay-ers that you might like include the Tower of London, Foundling Museum and Pollocks Toy Museum.

Take them to Covent Garden and spend a pleasant couple of hours wandering, and watching the street entertainment. (Free- if you know when to leg-it at the right time!!)

Go to Hamleys and let them play with all the toy demo's

Try the Trocadero for 'amusements' bowling and the like.

Take the tube to Queensway for the Ice Rink/10 pin bowling.

Ride around on the buses and tubes and take a proper old Taxi to somewhere......

There are kids theatres around - a puppet barge and you will find other shows that are child orientated, consider matinees rather than an evening job!

Thanks, whats the deal with the tube? We bought day passes last time and thought they were great value - would the kids have to get one each or do children ride free?

Duke Tours on land and in the water-depart behind the London Eye.

The pet dept at Harrods is very good to look around and see all the animals for sale.

Borough Market might be another idea, the children can taste lots of different foods.

Kids under 11 go free and one day Travelcards will be fine for you both although if you think you will become regular visitors then it may pay to get Oyster Cards and load them with "Pay As You Go" credit. There is a £3 deposit per card but the savings will soon outweigh that cost.

Our 8 year old son loves London. As mentioned before there are lots of Museums to visit most are free and have many activities for children. I usually go onto the interenet and see what activities are being planned for when we visit , www.visitlondon.com.

Some of our favourite activities have been, Duck Tours - a tour on land and then water, great fun for kids. A ride on the London Eye, Tower of London, Natural History Museum, Ripleys Beleive it or not!, National Army Museum, Kensington Gardens and Princess Diana Mermorial Playground (weather permitting). Harrods for a Krispy Kreme Donut and look around. A visit to a show, we loved the Lion King.
