BTW which club Quarters - the one in Gracechurch St or the one on Ludgate Hill. If the former you'd need to go to Bank Station

Could we take the Piccadilly line from Heathrow to Holborn then the central line to St Paul's. or do we need to catch a train first in order to get to the tube at Heathrow? Thanks

Borough Market is across the river and its a very interesting walk to it.

Otherwise, Smithfield's meat market is close by, but its opening hours are designed for the trade, not individual customers (ie it runs through the night). Some great pubs and restaurants around it, though (as there is at Borough).

If you take the Piccadilly line to King's Cross you may take the number 17 bus from stop H in Calendonian Road to Ludgate Hill; stop G is just steps from the Club Quarters there.

There are no stairs with which to cope at King's Cross (there are stairs for the change at Holborn) but the trip will take a bit longer. There are also stairs up from the ticket hall to street level at St Paul's station; you may wish to check at www.tfl.gov.uk to see if that station will be open on the Sunday you wish to travel.

There are three Underground stations at Heathrow: one at T4, one serving T1 / 3 and one at T5. The Piccadilly line travels from all three towards central London.

You can take that route and it would likely be quicker. Heathrow Connect is an half hour service so if you miss one, you'll have a bit of a wait.

As for markets, I can't think of any near the hotel. On the Saturday, Borough Market is open and you could walk it from the hotel. Head for the Millenium Bridge and then walk along the river pass Shakespeare's Globe and you'll hit Borough Market eventually - it's next to Southwark Catedral underneath the railway bridge. About a 20 minute walk from Ludgate Hill and it'll give you a chance to stretch your legs.

Borough Market is a gourmet food market and is well worth a visit and Saturday will be it's busiest day.

On the Sunday, the East End markets have their busiest days. You can get the tube to Liverpool Street and probably the best in the area is Old Spitalfields Market.

There is also the Columbia Road Flower market and also the Sunday Upmarket and the Backyard market which occupy the Old Truman Brewery buildings.

Lolita - yes, you have read the tube map correctly, and you can take the Piccadilly line to Holborn and change there for the central line to St Pauls.

If I remember correctly, though, it's a bit of a trek between the lines at Holborn. So, if you have luggage to move around, Alan's suggestion of the Heathrwo Connect to Ealing Broadway, then the Central line, will be easier, but a bit more expensive.

Take a walk to Leadenhall Market too if you get the chance. Not as big as Borough Market but still interesting.
