The best ever afternoon tea : Palm Court at the Langham

Posh afternoon tea is almost a "hobby" for me and I often asked for recommendations here on the forum in the past. When back in London I every time try a new treat, or go back to my all time favourite The Brown's (Ritz, Dorchester, Claridges, Wolseley, etc. were tested already). Last week I went for work to London, had the Monday free and I decided to try the Palm Court tea room at the Langham hotel - and it was a pleasure from the very beginning to the end. When going to afternoon tea by myself alone I often get an awkward seating (gangway, etc.). Here I had a lovely table and got offered some magazines to read (since I was alone). Generally, every table has a generous space there, so you have your privacy and the athmosphere is very relaxed and pleasant. I took their simple afternoon tea (the speciality is the "Bijou", and I think I'll treat myself with that the next time). The sandwiches were just perfect, they burst with the filling - and they offer you to refill with more. What I refused, because I was looking forward to the scones : plane and with raisins. I've never had so airy, light scones before - in spite of my habits I asked for refill...

The tiny cakes were special and lovely. Unfortunately, I had to pass the cupcake. You have a large choice of teas as well, I had an oolong.

The staff is attentive and I felt as if I had a special treatment. The tea at the Palm court would be a reason enough for me for a visit to London again. I can't wait to go back there !

I'd already been interested in popping over to the Langham for a look-round due to the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes connection. Now we know the hotel offers a fantastic tea experience, as well. Thanks for the detailed report.

Thanks, lin23, for a most informative Afternoon Tea report.

As an AT Expert your advice is even more valuable! Will add the Palm Court to the list.

Actually I just like saying things like "Afternoon Tea in the Palm Court"--sounds so elegant and Edwardian!

Toffee, come back with a review about the "Edwardian" afternoon tea - I'd be curious about another opinion.

And I see that they do a High Tea in the early evening for only a couple ££ more. :-)

Thank you very much for your review.
