WHS Suggestion for my time

Hi everyone,

We want to see all World Heritage Sites in London incl Kew Garden/ Greenwich from May 31 to June 2.

May 31 is Bank Monday Day. Are few of WHS sites on close this day? Or are this day more crowded?

Also, we think to take travelcard + 2 for 1 offers

Do you have suggestion for us ?

For example, May 31, Tower of London than with the ferry from Pier Tower of London to Greenwich

June 1 Westminister/ Parliment than to Kew Gardens?

Thank you!

Maybe its just me and my general knowledge lets me down badly, but "WHS" didn't mean anything to me (other than the name of a major UK book store) , and then, how many people here know what are "all the WHS sites in London"?

And then how many know if 2 4 1 covers all or some of them?

Perhaps better just to state - I want to visit <site 1>, <site 2> etc.

You can look up yourself on the http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/ website, which are covered on 2 4 1.

Almost certain everything will be open May 31st except banks and small shops but you can check on each sites website, if its open. Tube travel and buses likely on a restricted, Sunday timetable check on http://www.tfl.gov.uk/

Sorry, WHS means World Heritage Sites.

London has 4 World heritage sites;

Westminster Abbey/ House of Parliament

Tower of London

Kew Gardens

Greenwich

One day Westminster Abbey/ House of Parliament/TOL*

Another day Kew

Another day Greenwich / TOL*

*TOL = One or other day, depends how long you'll stay in Greenwich

Look up on their websites if they are open 31st but I'd be *amazed* if any except HOP are closed. Not sure about getting in HOP, when I did it it was booked months in advance for a tour.

For 2 4 1, look up on the daysout website I mentioned. I recall TOL is eligible, no idea about the others.

I think that the World Heritage Site designation for Greenwich and Westminster is for the significance of the clustering of important buildings and architecture. At Westminster you will be able to visit Westminster Abbey but probably not the inside of the Houses of Parliament. Similarly at Greenwich that are places that you will be able to enter, some without charge, but it is the overall grouping that is important. In this cross the river for one of the best views in London.

I had never heard of a WHS either.

parliament.uk/visiting/…tours.cfm

Follow the text through to overseas visitors and summer opening. It's all a bit complicated to me.

Greenwich is a good day out.

I had vaguely heard of World Heritage Sites. But WHS as an acronym? That meant nothing to me. Which actual buildings or places are they? No idea (well I do now :-) but I still don't care :-)

This sounds like a very interesting idea - you could also fit in a half-day visit to Stonehenge if you plan it correctly, because it's an easy train journey from London to Salisbury and then a short bus ride from the train station.

I'd go to Greenwich on a day when the three (?) streetmarkets/covered markets are open
