Train Trip London to Chichester Return

I am planning a day trip from London to Chichester by train in July.

Is it better to buy a ticket in advance than buying it on the day.

Regards

The off peak return fare for the journey from London Victoria to Chichester is £26.30 whether you travel on 05 May or in July. The Anytime return fare - fully flexible with no time restrictions - is just £28.30 return.

Actually, there are some discounted return fares on the Southern website at the moment. You can buy an off-peak return ticket to Chichester for £19.40 during Southern's 15% off sale. There is also a normal £24.10 return fare using Southern trains only.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot about the non-refundable singles for specific train times. They're a great deal if you are able to lock yourself into particular travel times.

Just a tip about trains to Chichester. Many services from London split en route so pay attention to the destination boards and get in the right part. They are pretty good at giving announcements and usually a conductor checks tickets before the dividing point, but it can be a bit of a hassle having to go along the train.
