Great restaurants around Oxford Circus tube area?

Are there any ... ?

No, seriously - I'm looking for recommendations in that area.

Something just above "middle of the road" maybe?

Somewhere with 4-5 star food with 3-star prices maybe?

French or Italian or Seafood or Mediterranen or Modern? or?

Our hotel recommended these:

Bentleys – Sea food

Vasco and Pierro – Italian

L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon - French

Any comments? Suggestions? for other spots?

There are quite a few

I'm too out of date when it comes to regular eating out in the West End....but Harden's have always been the authority, so I'd go with what they say:

Bentley's, no doubt. My favourite London restaurant, bar none.

But you're looking for 3 star prices... hmm, what do you mean by that? Less than what? I think Bentley's is the best value top end restaurant I've eaten in, it tends to cost (depending on what you order of course) around £60 per head for 3 courses plus a bottle of wine between you. It can work out more, if you push the boat out.

If you mean 3 star Michelin prices then the sky's the limit.

Bentley's certainly, but not sure if I would consider that to be near Oxford Circus tube,

Hibiscus?

I'm not even sure what "3 star Michelin prices'" mean.

They make tires don't thay?

I guess I mean very good food at reasonable prices?

"They make tires don't they?"

Could you tell us what you mean by reasonable? That often helps to pin something down.

Frankly, I can't think of anywhere where you won't pay accordingly for the quality of food.

More Piccadilly Circus than Oxford Circus (like Bentley's, a recommendation I second) is Bocca di Lupo in Soho, which is delicious.

Near Oxford Circus is La Trouvaille, also delicious.

Ok.. by "reasonable" ..I mean here in Canada.. where I am... my wife & I can often hunt out a very nice restaurant & get away with a total bill of around $100 (canadian). We don't go overboard - maybe split an appetizer, 2 mains, bottle of wine (of course), no dessert.

Now I know London is more expensive - but looking for suggestions that sort of fit that bill - relatively speaking. Let's say around 50-80 GBP for two of us?

That is a bit on the low side for very good restaurants. You might also want to know that portions tend to be smaller than in North America and 'splitting' of starters and main courses isn't usually done. No problem asking for two spoons with pudding though.

Certainly your hotel recommendations are above this budget. If you want to try some of the more up market restaurants you might consider lunch; many have a fixed price lunch which can be very good value.

For French food in that price range look at Mon Plaisir in Monmouth Street, a 20 minute walk away. Incognico on Shaftesbury Avenue usually has some good set menu offers as well.

I recently had a very pleasant meal at Ozer , very close to Oxford Circus.

Ok ... let's say I want to "spluge" & spend around 100GBP... (which is prob. about 50% more money than I would spend on a decent meal here at home) where does that take me???

(and brit: re portions - yes AMERICAN portions do tend to be HUGE , canadian not so bad ...and in the part of canada where I live, I'd say portion sizes are more in line with UK.)
