Christmas has started in London

Selfridges opened its Christmas department yesterday, and Harrods will open their Christmas shop on Saturday.

Also the price of Christmas puddings may have to go up , due to a shortage of the various dried fruit ingredients (poor harvests blamed).

My local Oxfam (two floors below me) has had Advent Calendars in for a month and they've just got in the 2011 diaries

It seems to get earlier each year! I suppose some people need 4½ months to get organised for one day!! It’s only a matter of time so until the stores start to dust off “Now Thats What I Call … Christmas”

Last year I was in the National Trust shop in Cambridge at beginning of July and they had a large selection of Christmas cards on sale.

I mentioned to the shop assistant that thought it was a bit early and she replied that customers asked for them. Commercialism gone mad.......

In mid-April this year I saw a promotion at WHSmith selling Easter Eggs at half price, almost 12 months before Easter Sunday. How on earth do they expect them to keep them hidden from the kids for that long?

In college I wrote a satirical essay about a combination Independence Day - Christmas parade on July 4th. Maybe it wasn't so satirical after all. :-)

Ack! They just did a story on Selfridge's Christmas department on our local news here in Los Angeles.

Yea, we've had several already, if I remember rightly the first one was in about March. But I do understand visitors having to plan their trip.

What really does get me is why some people living here apparently need 6 months planning for one day.

If you want to get very nice English Christmas cards, the V&A Museum gift shop has had a good selection in the past....I've bought them several times. And they will probably have them next month at the latest, if not now.
