Breakfast near the Royal HorseGuards Hotel

Hello to All.

We will be staying at the HorseGuards Hotel on Whitehall Court. Is there a place close by for breakfast that does not have "McDonalds" in its name? And how much does a small breakfast (coffee, fruit, breadstuffs) cost, approximately. (The hotel is asking 30L for breakfast.)

MANY Thanks

£30 for breakfast for two? Blimey.

There is a branch of Leon in the Strand just east of John Adam Street that should have plenty of breakfast options available. There is a branch of Paul in Bedford Street that has good sweet and savoury treats, coffees and teas.

There is an M&S Simply Food at Charing X station if you'd like to buy fruit, yogurt, pastries and juices; if the shop has an instore cafe you might find porridge or hot filled rolls on offer early in the mornings.

There is a branch of EAT which offers breakfast in Villiers Street; you can have an English breakkie or a lighter meal from 0800 at the Cafe at the Crypt at St Martin in the Fields.

L30 PLUS TAX. That's probably more than $50US -- before the tip. More power to them if they can get it.

Thanks for the ideas.

The hotel specifically says L15 per person PLUS TAX. Perhaps some other places include the tax -- this hotel does not do that.

There is a tick box at the top of the booking page on their web site to include tax in the prices.

From your hotel head towards Embankment station. Villiers Street runs from the station up to The Strand, and has lots of little sandwich shops and cafes that also do breakfast - the aforementioned EAT, Pret a Manger etc.

Alternatively cross the river to the South Bank where there is a selection of places that do breakfast - Le Pain Quotodien for a more continental type breakfast, or there's also Canteen, for starters.

It's a bit odd because legally prices shown must include VAT., so if a price is £30 quid on a menu, that's what you pay.

You are welcome to check the hotel's website yourself. But the reason I was posting was to try to find a place for breakfast.

Sorry, I wasn't intending to be rude, or suggesting that you were wrong. I wanted to let you know that it isn't the norm and that whilst in London taxes will not be added to menu or other displayed prices.
