Greenwich is in London, no need to take a day trip to it.

In order to answer your question:

But just because it's available, doesn't mean it's a good idea. It is criminal trying to cram all that in to one day, and you'll be getting little more than time to take a few photos before moving on. In my opinion.

Agree wholheartedly with Gilliganuk. Leeds Castle is easily a half day what with its beautiful grounds, maze, aviary, and of course the Castle itself. Dover Castle is easily a half day to explore the Medieval portion of the Castle, and the famous wartime tunnels. Canterbury deserves time as well.

There are direct trains to Canterbury.

To get to Dover Castle,

Here's a link for getting to Leeds Castle;

These are all very worthwhile places to visit.

You could do Dover and Canterbury in one trip as they are on the same train line. Perhaps go to Dover Castle first. Back to Canterbury in the afternoon, then if you want you can have dinner in Canterbury before you take the train back to London.

The Leeds Castle trip would I think have to be a separate visit albeit not a long day. You get the train to Bearsted and either take the shuttle bus or a taxi and get back to London mid afternoon.

The trains are on the comuter routes so you do not have to book and as long as you ensure you do not start your train journey before 9.30 am you can get a cheap day return ticket which can be around half the price of a normal fare. However, I am not sure how this works if you want to break your journey on the Dover/Canterbury day.

The Leeds Castle, Dover, Canterbury and Greenwich done by the major tour companies is a bit misleading as you don't visit all 4, its basically visit 2 and lunch stops/drive throughs at the others.

Premium Tours probably gives you the best options as they give you 2 alternative tours.

a) Visit Dover Castle, then Canterbury Cathedral then last thing you get a river cruise from Greenwich back to Westminster Pier by Big Ben with a cream tea thrown in.

b) Visit Leeds Castle (quick tour before open to public), lunch at a Dover pub with a glimpse of the famous white cliffs, then visit Canterbury Cathedral before the same river cruise as option (a)

You should pick up either tour for 65-75 GBP depending where you purchase from, which with admissions and the cruise is actually very good value.

As ever, purists will cry each place deserves a day on its own but for the time poor tourist the tour is fine. However independently

Leeds Castle itself if you visit independently is priced and set up for a full day visit. National Express run a daily schedule for day visits from Victoria Coach Station.

Dover and Canterbury can be done by rail.

Dover is a bit tedious independently, you need a bus, taxi or a hearty pair of lungs to go the mile and a bit from the railway station to Dover Castle and then its another mile walk from here to the White Cliffs Visitor Centre where there is good views and walks along the cliffs, or back in the port there are some boat trips to observe the White Cliffs.

Again Canterbury can take a day by train easly, there are good walking tours from the tourist office which will set the scene nicely. The Cathedral is obviously the 'must see' but the walking tour will introduce you to all the other worthwhile places to visit, more a matter of what not to visit.

There's no longer a National Express coach service to Leeds Castle
