English style food, Sloan Square/S. Kensington?

My husband, teenage daughter and I are arriving in a few weeks. Will be staying at the Nell Gwynne House on Sloane Ave. It's between the Sloan Sq. and S. Kensington stops.

I know we'll be exhausted our first evening, so would like to have a few ideas for dinner nearby so that we don't have to wander around looking for food while tired and hungry. Daughter is dying for real English fish and chips (veg only). Can be a take-away, we'll have a kitchen.

Any recommendations for traditional English food nearby? Thanks!

What does real English fish and chips (veg only) mean?

Fish not fried in beef dripping. So not quite "real" English fish and chips.

Fried in oil, not lard.

As far as I'm aware, the Fryer's Delight on Theobalds Ave (nearly 3 miles from Sloane Sq (note spelling) physically: an ocean apart culturally) is the only place in London that serves F&C cooked in lard.

The bad news, though, is that I can't think of a chippy anywhere nearer Sloane Sq than Victoria, and no decent one anywhere nearer than Strutton Ground, a half mile further on.

If you want real English food, eat what we English do: curry, kebabs or Cantonese food. I'm serious: I honestly can't think of an "English" place near Sloane Ave

Exactly, thanks Mr. Cellophane and flanneruk! And thanks to all for recommendations.

As to eating as the English do: we are certainly game for it. None of us are big on curry, but any suggestions for kebabs or Cantonese near Sloane (spelling noted :)?
