Nice family-run restaurant in SE London

Hello all,

I am going for a meal with my family this Saturday 18th February, and looking for a smallish family-run restaurant in SE London.

Greenwich/Blackheath/Brockley/Forest Hill areas

Not Indian please

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I can't give you a personal recommendation, but toptable.co.uk suggests these for 18 Feb: www.toptable.co.uk/search_results.cfm…

Also, this one: Biagio La Lanterna, 179 Brockley Road. Brockley,

SE4 2RS

Hopefully, other posters will have personal recommendations for you.

Another find, though don't know if you want to go Lewisham way:

Thailand, 15 Lewisham Way, SE14, 8691 4040 is meant to have outstanding Thai & Laotian food and is run by a husband & wife team.

I love the food at the upstairs restaurant in the North Pole. Don't know if it's family-run though.

Have also had some really fun meals at the Village Taverna, on Lee Road.

Wassa budget? Chapter 2 is the best 'modern British' resto' in Blackheath; Montpelier Vale SE3, in the village, tel 8333 2666; booking essential; busy. £20 per head but good value (west-end quality at local prices- £14+ for wine). Laughing Bhudda chinese a few doors away at 41 Montpelier Vale- best for seafood (scallops, squid, prawns, whole seabass... 8852 4161/2166)at 20% less.

Or Maggie's caff 322 Lewisham Rd SE13, near Lewsiham Station /buses. Best greasy spoon in SE London; £4-5 incl tea. Tattooed Irish waitresses. Booking unusual;busy.

I live in Brockley and I like "La Lanterna". Its near Brockley train station and opposite the Brockley Barge Weatherspoons pub (which is horrible by the way, don't go there beforehand).

I've just googled la lanterna and realised its part of a group of restaurants but I never would have known. Ive been a few times and thought it was family owned. Meals look and taste really home made and the is a friendly atmosphere.

Its good quality food for a reasonable price.
