Oyster Card Confusion

My husband and I are moving to London in Sept and will be living near Clapham Junction station in Zone 2 but my husband will need to commute to Gatwick Airport Railway Station (25min trip) everyday.

Will he be able to use an 'Oyster Pay As You Go' card or is there another railcard that would be more suitable in order to obtain the the cheapest travel possible during peak times?

Gatwick is a long way outside of the Oyster zones.

His best option would be a weekly/monthly/yearly season ticket.

The fares for these will be approximately just over the cost of 4 peak return journeys/4 weekly tickets/11 monthly tickets respectively.

Oyster is only valid within the "London zones tfl" area, and Gatwick is well beyond that, so no he can't use Oyster.

(Actually - there are a smal number of places outside London where Oyster is valid - but the general rule is "only within London")

In any case, if he is going to commute every day, using PAYG is not the best value. He needs a season ticket - which is purpose designed for people who commute at peak times. These are available for one week, one year or anything inbetween. Buy when you get here - no advantage in trying to organise this in advance.

If he gets anything longer than a month, he will almost certainly need a passport size photograph.
