Taxi or private car Heathrow Airport to New Southgate

Hi we are staying at a bed and breakfast near Arnos Grove train station. Does anyone have any idea of the cost to catch a taxi there around 5pm on a week day? Also the time it would take with peak hour traffic? Or would it be easier to go by train vs time and cost instead?

Any advice appreciated.

Regards Lyn

Ok thanks gosh you wouldn't want to be claustrophobic! May have a doze best part is we will have a seat so no long standing up. Hopefully the train won't get too crowded with peak hour commuters with our suitcases in tow it could be fun.

If you're traveling on a weekday evening it will get crowded through central London, and then thin out as the train heads out the other side and commuters get off. The advantage you have is that you're boarding at the end/start of the line and will have seats.

I'd still take the tube over a taxi/car service; the North Circular is just as boring, and frankly worse in a traffic jam.

They don't call it the UNDERground for nothing. ;-) Although, having said that, more of the system (taken as a whole) is above ground than below.

Taking the Piccadilly line is, for me, the obvious choice. You get on when the train is near empty so there will be plenty of places for your bags and to sit together. The train will get busy as you hit the centre, perhaps surprisingly busy, so make sure you can keep your eyes on your bags. Thefts are very rare but there's no point in tempting fate.

Ok thanks for your advice. We not only by the sounds of it save money but will be there in a faster time and after 13 hours on a plane it's the way to go.

Cheers Lyn
