Can anyone tell me the easiest way from Luton to Tottenham Court Rd and rough idea of cost
Buy a rail ticket at LTN to London St Pancras. At St Pancras you may either take a taxi to Tottenham Court Road or take any of buses 10, 73 or 390 from stop A - just across from the rail station in Euston Road. tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/…
Alight at the stop for UCH and walk to Tottenham Court Road if you've booked the Radisson Edwardian Grafton Hotel. If you've booked at the St Giles Hotel alight at stop X in New Oxford Street. tfl.gov.uk/tfl/…tottenhamcourtroad-2259.pdf If you need another destination in Tottenham Court Road the stops at Torrington Place and Chenies Street are a two minute walk from Gower Street to TC Road.
Rail fares are from £14 single, £24 return. Cash single fare for the bus is £2.20 but cheaper if you use a Travelcard or PAYG on Oyster.
thanks thats most helpful
The alternative to the train is the airport bus which is aimed at those where cost is uppermost in their purchasing criteria as they are slower and prone to traffic congestion delays
Arguably buses are simpler too as the trains don't go to Luton Airport (you get a shuttle from the bottom of the hill from the airport) whilst the buses depart from in front of the passenger terminal door.
You'd get off the bus at Baker Street or Marble Arch depending on which end of Tottenham Court Road you want. Both these are a similar distance than St Pancras with bus/taxi/underground links.
The bus is very odd as 3 operators sell tickets for the same buses. easyBus normally are the cheapest if you book in advance on-line and can be as low as 2 GBP.
Please note that Northern Line trains are not currently stopping at TCR underground station.
Central Line trains are still stopping there

Actually if you are being picky it's 4, though I suppose one (National Express) is an agent rather than an operator for the route
But yes it's very oddEdited: 24 August 2011, 10:11
thanks for the info, we're staying at St Giles Hotel which stop should we get off if we take the bus
Stop X in New Oxford Street
If using the easybus would it be best to get off at Baker st or Marble Arch
If you take the bus from LTN to central London, alight at Marble Arch. From there take either the 10 towards King's Cross or 390 towards Archway from stop K in Oxford Street. tfl.gov.uk/tfl/…marblearchdr-2168.pdf
Both buses call at stop V - see the link in post one for Tottenham Court Road - just west of the junction of TC Road and Oxford Street. To get from there to the St Giles Hotel make your way towards the Dominion theatre (it's the easiest landmark to pinpoint at that junction) and keep walking north on Tottenham Court Road a few metres to Great Russell Street.
I wouldn't (willingly) take the Underground from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road station for a few reasons. First is that there are stairs between street level and ticket hall / train platform at both stations. Second, TC Road station is ungodly busy at most times. Right now it's under refurbishment which adds to the general awfulness of it as it's got narrow corridors, some long-ish hikes to and from ticket hall and platforms - if you need not travel through the station it may be worth spending a bit more time on the bus from Marble Arch.
