Necessary to book in advance for Gatwick/Heathrow Coach?

Hi

We need to travel between Heathrow and Gatwick and vice versa.

I was wondering if its necessary to book in advance for the National Express Coach or if its easy to just purchase a ticket on arrival.

Are the coaches mostly full, or usually lots of free spaces?

(A small problem with booking in advance is you have to specify a specific coach departure time, and if your flight is late, or very early, its possible to change to another departure time but there is an associated fee for doing so).

TIA

We didn't book, just bought tickets when we arrived, the coach was 3/4 full (September month, week day, late morning).

After we purchased tickets we got in line and waited approx. ten-fifteen minutes.

As we live close to Gatwick we often take the National Express coach to and from Heathrow and always purchase our tickets just before boarding. For the return a specific coach time has to be pre-booked but if you miss this due to your flight being delayed then they will often allow you to board a later coach without charge as we did earlier this week. With the frequency of the coaches on this route we've never encountered problems getting a seat. If you arrive late in the evening they occasionally cut out a coach to consolidate as there are fewer passengers.

Thanks.

How much is it when paying upon arrival?

The fare is the same whether you buy a ticket from the National Express kiosks in the airport or on-line.

There are no advance purchase discounts on this run, unlike nearly other National Express service.

If by any chance you are over 60, they are stopping discounts for the over 60's on Oct 31 but you can order on-line these tickets beyond that date up to Oct 31 on-line.
