Marriott hotel in Kensington

I am staying with the family there in March 2012. Kids are ages 12 and 9. This Marriott is cheaper than the one in Mayfair on Park Lane. What do you think of the location? Is Kensington a good base for a family vacation? Are you familiar with this hotel? Any tips about places to take kids that age? Thanks

I haven't stayed at that hotel, but the location is absolutely fine. There are many other chain hotels in that area too. Plenty of affordable restaurants, eateries and pubs in the area too (more so than Park Lane).

For the kids, you are a 15-20 minute walk, or 1 tube stop or a short bus ride from the Natural History and Science museums, with Kensington Gardens not far away.

Also, if you are flying into Heathrow, this hotel is much more convenient to get to. Just take the Piccadilly line tube to Gloucester Road station (about 35 minutes) and then a 5 minute walk (if that).

You will have no problem with the Marriott in Kensington, which is a new build. Iits in the middle of a a major hotel district with Holiday Inn's, Crown Plaza's. Raddissons around although its really a budget hotel district area.

The Park Lane / Mayfair location one is are more corporate/expense account/stuffy and for a family you might actually feel more relaxed in Kensington.

You have a large full size 24x7 supermarket opposite which you wouldn't have in Mayfair and family restauarants, fast food and pubs all around. Again Mayfair isn't exactly orientated towards middle of the road family restaurants.

All in all you'll probably have just a good if not better stay in Kensington than Mayfair with a family at a much.much lower cost.

If your are wedded to Marriott then the Marriott Regents Park is also worth looking at for better prices and is also in a nice area for families.
