Probably, and quite rightly too.

Well, McDonalds is closed. You may have to contact individual fast food places now through their 'contact us' website pages to see if they'll be open or not, since several websites I checked have no Xmas info at all. Expect the majority, if not all, to be closed, with maybe one or two branches to be open (if that).

Very few places will be open - certainly not McDonalds, Burger King or KFC

You will find something open at the airport

Don't forget, their employees have to get in, and there is no public transport.

I was in Central London on Christams Day in 2009 and most of the restaurants around Leicester Sqaure were open including McDonalds and KFC. There were places open on Oxford Street as well.

It's illegal for McD, or any other chain that includes franchised branches, to prevent a franchisee from opening when the franchisee wants to.

So I'd treat any claim that all branches of any franchise business follow an identical opening policy with great scepticism. The reality of Central London over Christmas is that virtually every business under central ownership closes on Christmas Day - but there are more than enough pubs, eating places and small grocery stores independently owned by people who don't want to close that day for no-one to be in any real danger of dying of hunger or thirst.

I doubt anyone at McD (or their competitors) has the faintest idea which (or indeed if any) of its outlets are open on Dec 25, even if they've got a policy that branches owned by McD and operated by McD employees will close.. Even in Britain, where the proportion of McD-owned McD outlets is relatively high, there's still a significant smattering of franchisees who'll do what they think is in their interest.

If eating McD (for some inexplicable reason) matters to you, contact their UK head office and see if they know. If you simply want to eat here on Dec 25, and don't want an expensive hotel meal, just walk round where you're staying, or buy a copy of the Xmas/New Year Time Out (if necessary, from one of the many convenience stores that will be open on Dec 25),which always gives an emergency opening list.

There is no recorded example of a foreign visitor going hungry on Xmas Day. Sadly, though, there are many examples of ill-informed Londoners making downright false claims about the extent of Xmas Day closures.

"If you simply want to eat here on Dec 25"

I suspect that's the reason for the question, and if that's so then there is never a problem finding some hot food on Xmas day... it may be nasi goreng, falafel, or Singapore noodles, but you're as likely to find a bad cheeseburger as well if that's what your heart desires.

And what office of the government would keep track of exactly?

CT is right...if you haven't yet booked a Christmas dinner, there is food, but it may not be traditional fare.

A fair number of pubs will be offering a Christmas Day dinner, but you may have to look to find places that will admit you without pre-booking.

Also the cost will be quite high
