Please let us know if it is safe to take water from the tap in the bathroom sink in London, boil it and then drink it? I've heard that tap water from kitchen taps are safe while tap water from the bathroom sink is not. Can someone please enlighten me? Thank you.

Edited: 12 years agoWould just add that I have never drunk a glass of water from even our kitchen sink tap as I find it tastes so digusting it actually makes me feel sick but that is another point altogether. We have very hard water, not sure about London water, I alays add squash or cordial of some sort.

The water in Cardiff is also recycled urine. Not been through so many people, but recycled none the less. Must explain the mental state of the Welsh.

You can ask for tap water in restaurants or pubs in the UK and they must provide it.

As Greater London stops long before you exit Watford, I am surprised by the additional 3 million + people in the capital.
I appreciate Theresa May had relaxed the immigration rules this summer but surely three million illegal immigrants did not sneak into London, during this time.
That’s three million more people recycling our water.

Very naughty, but not uncommon, way to boost the profits.
As already stated just ask for tap water, the are obliged to provide it.
I think that residents get used to the tap water available in their city. People from other cities may not be used to the variations and can get upset stomachs from what is to other people perfectly acceptable water.
If I am going to go overseas I generally buy bottled water just in an effort to eliminate one possibility of getting an upset stomach (and possibly ruining my holiday or at the very least wasting a few days). I have learnt this from personal experience and it works for me.

Thanks for posting swcttraveller - I hadn't heard that ice cube story but it's very amusing. I feel sorry for visitors from the US - it's automatic to be poured a glass of water as soon as you sit down in a restaurant there, and to have it refilled throughout the meal, whatever other drinks you may or may not be ordering, so I'm sure visitors from the US get ripped off all the time because they don't know (or don't like) to specify tap water.
Lesson from the above then make sure you ask for tap water - no ice.
