RyanAir fly from Luton, which is pretty straightforward from there (Northern line to Kings Cross then FCC train to Luton Airport Parkway, then shuttle bus to the terminal)
AirFrance fly from City, also quite easy - Northern line to Bank, then DLRT to City airport.
AerLingus and BMI fly from Heathrow, a bit fiddly, but OK. (Um, Northern line to Embankment, District line to Hammersmith, Piccadilly line to Herathrow).
RyanAir and Aerlingus fly from Gatwick, and RyanAir also from Stansted, but both are a bit of a pina from Tooting, IMO.
Many thanks - is City - Southend Airport? - I know that she will get a taxi to the airport as she is not great on other transport - Many thanks for you quick reply
City Airport is in Docklands - entirely separate from Southend
Gatwick's probably the easiest. (Taxi or bus to Clapham junction, plenty of trains, Southern which take less than 30 minutes).
It may even be worth getting a taxi all the way since Tooting is the right side of London but will depend on how much you are prepared to spend and when you are travelling.
Great thanks - not sure when she will be travelling as she is visiting someone in Hospital - but should be around midday - she paid 120 pounds in a taxi from Southend - on Friday and I just thought I would try and research a better way back for her. Again many thanks for your replies.
> she will get a taxi to the airport <
Oh, I see.
In that case:
City: 15 miles
Heathrow: 20 miles
Gatwick: 25 miles
Stansted: 45 miles
Luton: 45 miles
Southend: 50 miles
But you could have done all that with a map, so I assumed you were asking something more complicated :)
There are several ways of getting to Gatwick via public transport, but they involve either a couple of buses and then a train, or several trains. Go to tfl.gov.uk and use the journey planner for various routes.
It may be bes/easiest to use a minicab (NOT a taxi!), though.
I can't vouch for this service, but you could give them a ring for a quote:
And this company quotes about £40 for the trip in a standard car:
Living in Tooting I try to use Gatwick as much as possible as it's easiest to get to by a LONG shot.
Thank you for all the replies - have checked out a taxi and flights and will be going from Gatwick. Again thanks to everyone who replied much appreciated.
Darren - is that by public transport, or by taxi? If by public transport, what route do you use?
