Sightseeing From Heathrow?

We will be going on a cruise this summer and plan to fly into a day early. We will arrive at Heathrow at about 7 AA, and will probably not be able to check into our hotel (The Sofitel Heathrow) until much later in the day.

Is it possible for a couple of Seniors to do some sightseeing for a few hours and then return to the Hotel for check-in? We prefer not to rent a car for the day.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Much!!!

You can take the Piccadily tube from Heathrow to Piccadilly Circus, and take the HoHo bus www.theorignaltour.com

Or wander as you wish.

You could also take a taxi to Windsor for the day. I think it's about 20 min or so from Heathrow.

One thing you probably want to do is check with the hotel as to whether you can leave your bags there even if you can't check in. Otherwise, you'll have to pay £8.50 a bag to leave them at heathrow.

First of all I would check with the Sofitel about your chances of early check-in. Worst case is probably that you just leave your luggage securely with the hotel.

It's very hard to just kill a couple of hours at Heathrow unless you go to the Ten Pin Bowlong Alley.

Windsor is the obvious place. A private car is about 20 GBP from T5 and 15 minutes. There are also public buses to Windsor Castle from T5 for a lot lot less, that take 45 mins.

Five Star in Windsor a private car service also do a service where you can leave your luggage in their office in Windsor for a flat fee as long as you want then pick you up with the luggage for your return to the airport.

The Castle doesn't open until 9:45 and will normally take at least 2 hours to go around, though there is plenty other than the castle to occupy yourself.

I think most people would just leave the luggage at the Sofitel or if lucky check-in then get the train into Central London and do sightseeing there, perhaps on one of the HoHo buses if its your first time.
