Would you recommend staying in Shepherd's Bush?

Hi,

We are visiting London as a family for the first time later this year and I have been scouring through the apartment listings to find somewhere convenient, safe and reasonably priced to stay.

I am thinking of booking an apartment in Shepherd's Bush;

tripadvisor.com.au/…map

I am looking for some advice as to whether this is a convenient place to stay, is it close enough for frequent trips into the city centre as well as a few day trips to other parts of England? Also, is it a safe area, as we will be travelling during the norther winter, no doubt we will be coming home using public transport and walking when it is dark, would this be OK when staying in this area? Also, it looks really convenient to Westfield shops etc, but would it be a really busy, noisy area?

I'm hoping some locals will be able to help me!

Thanks for reading,

Tina (Perth, Western Australia)

Strange, I'm pretty sure the places I've seen having the most riots and violent disorder in recent years have been mostly in Westminster, especially around Parliament Square, Whitehall and Trafalgar Square!

Thanks for the lively discussion!!

I have narrowed down my choice and I am thinking of booking a place in Pimlico, through Coach House Rentals.......... any comments?

Does Pimlico station have a connection that goes directly into the centre of London?

Pimlico? Much too safe, you want somewhere a bit more edgy........;0)

The 'Centre of London' is not really an easy area to define, the Victoria line will take you direct to a Oxford Circus, if you want Oxford Street/Regent Street shopping. Other stations on the Victoria line, for example Green Park, Victoria station etc. will just involve one change to another line, which should take you anywhere you desire.

Your tube system sounds so confusing!! We have two main train lines in Perth - north/south; east/west - no wonder I am very happy to settle for safe!! :o)

From Pimlico you can walk to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, House of Parliament and the London Eye all in about 20 minutes I reckon. Pretty central!

Pimlico is also an under-rated neighbourhood with some great pubs and restaurants and lots of good supermarkets etc which are handy if you have an apartment.

and London is a little bigger than Perth so requires a bigger transport system ;-) We only have 12 or so tube lines, easy...

The Tube system is very easy, it will make sense when you get here. Pimlico will be a very good place for a family to stay and if you look at this website, you will see it is very easy to walk a good number of places from there

But the edginess of Pimlico was the subject of a thread a couple of months ago!
