What's your favorite thing about London? (Or if you can't choose one, what are your three favorite things?)

Oyster cards. Seriously, I love the freedom and the generous price caps on PAYG.

Then, St. Paul's from the Millennium Bridge.

Then, any view of the Thames

That, as someone whose name I can't remember put it, you can turn a corner and find yourself in a different country or different century.

That ancient and modern co-exist but London is always reinventing itself.

That is both grand and intimate, and to quote out of context - can walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch.

I have dozens so I'll have to stick to the OP's rule of three:

1: The constant hustle and bustle, that odd sense that important things constantly happen in this city, as they have done for hundreds, almost thousands of years.

2: The history, as a resident you forget it at times, then you look up above a random McDonalds or a chain bar and realise that the building that it occupies is far older than a lot of today's countries.

3: The river. It's the lifeblood of the city and it would have been a dull city without its comings and goings over the last 2000 years.

1) Trafalgar Square. I have no idea why, but I always go there whenever I am in London. Been to London and the square 3 times now.

2) Westminister Bridge. Tower Bridge may be more impressing, but standing on Westminister Bridge? Nothing can beat that. Love the views. Big Ben, Thames, London Eye, the river cruises and all which is very typical London.

I prefer small towns and countryside so I have never found London appealing in any major way. I could say my favourite thing is getting the heck out of there, but there are a few things that are a draw to me....

The Inns of Court - a very charming area of squares, Georgian and early Victorian era law offices and the Temple Church.

Covent Garden - preferably early morning and without the crowds.

The Midland Railway Hotel at St Pancras - Sir George Gilbert Scott's essay in "over the top" neo-Gothic splendour. Ostentatious and absurd to some, but to me I could sit over a Belgian beer and gawp at it's facade for the best part of an hour before departing to Brussels or Paris. Or Rotherham.

Not in order of importance:

- Regent's Park and Camden Town and Market

- A walk along the Thames from Houses of Parliament to Tower Bridge

- Covent Garden

No need to say that I could go on and on.... :-)

I agree with henneth - getting on the train for East Sussex at the end of the day !

But, whilst I'm there :

1. Soho - great area with a brilliant atmosphere.

2. Watching a footie match at a lower league ground - somewhere like Brentford or Orient - under floodlights.

3. Traditional pubs - Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, The Seven Stars and The French House.
