LHR to Tower Bridge with a stop at a national rail station

Hey all. We originally were going to stay in Waterloo, but we have had a change in plans. We are coming into LHR and need to get to Tower Hill Grange hotel.

Reading through the boards, I found this:

LHR via Picadilly line to Hammersmith, where I change to the District Line to Tower Bridge.

Where would be the easiest stop to purchase our 7-day travel cards for the rest of our visit? I see three stations on the way, Victoria, Blackfriars and Cannon Street. Do we have to leave the station to purchase and then get back on the tube.

Will 10 pounds be enough to put on PAYG Oyster for the LHR leg?

Thanks all

The District line does indeed go to Tower Hill and the change at Hammersmith is an easy one; you may buy paper Travelcards at nearby Fenchurch Street station. There are stairs at Tower Hill station, about 35 of them, and depending on the time of day you travel you may share those stairs up with a great many visitors.

Prescot Street is about a five minute walk from Tower Hill station. Follow the signs towards Tower Gateway DLR station but turn left and continue around the curve in the road.

Just beyond that curve you'll see the Travelodge in Goodman's Yard. Past that is a traffic signal at Mansell Street, with a Wetherspoon's pub on the left. Goodman's Yard becomes Prescot Street at Mansell Street; walk a few metres past the junction and you'll see the hotel on the left. Not far from the hotel is the very good Cafe Spice Namaste if you're in the mood for quality South Asian food.

Fenchurch Street is west of the junction of Minories and Crosswall; walk along Crosswall to Crutched Friars and follow the signs.

Buses are a good alternative to the Underground in the Tower Hill / Aldgate area with plenty of options from which to choose: tfl.gov.uk/tfl/…toweroflondon-2261.pdf tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/…

£10 should be plenty of PAYG money if you use Oyster for travel from and to Heathrow and central London only.
